Centaurus II – Solar Powered Car

| May 18, 2010 | 0 Comments

Electric and hybrid cars are environmentally friendly and there are many different models in the market. The team at the University of Minnesota has taken the solar powered concept a bit further and made a solar powered car, called Centaurus II, which is its eighth attempt. It looks more futuristic than the previous models.

This strange looking vehicle will seat only one person. It has been entirely designed and made by students of the university under project manager, Alan Jacobs. This solar car features improved aerodynamics and is made so that it can maximize the speed.

The car measures in at just over 3 feet tall and is about 16 feet long and 6 feet wide and weighs about 400 pounds. What’s more, it is slated to take part in the 1100 mile race from Tulsa, Oklahoma to Chicago. No information on the speed it can reach and how long it takes to get charged.
