The Human Powered Car

| August 27, 2010 | 0 Comments

This one is not just a concept, but is actually in a manufacturing stage. Designed by Charles Samuel Greenwood who has been working on this project for decades, the car actually works on human power. Environmentally friendly – you bet. The vehicle is called the HumanCar Imagine PS.

In days gone by there used to be a small car for kids which moved by using the feet to move a lever. Nowadays even kiddy cars are battery or electric powered. So a human powered car is not a new concept as such. Instead of using foot power, this one uses hand power. But this one is not for play – it is meant to hit the roads.

And it is supposed to achieve a top speed of 30 mph uphill and 60 mph on a flat road. That is a fairly decent speed. Presumably if there are four people driving the load on one driver will be less, much as rowing a boat is.

The car also has a back-up electric battery. When it is available, it will feature an all-weather roof, touch-screen display and GPS. Already 100 people have pre-booked it at $50.
