While a rocking chair may be thought to be the domain of grandparents, gently rocking away, it is a fact that rocking chairs can be extremely comfortable. And a newly designed rocking chair can also be used to generate electricity.

Ryan Klinger has designed this chair, named Empower, which was one of the finalists in the Greener Gadgets competition. Swinging or rocking on this chair which is hooked up to a kinetic energy generator and lithium-ion batteries, means that you will be producing electricity.

The chair is also eco-friendly since it is made from recyclable materials and can be flat packed for easy transport. The electricity which is stores will be available via a USB hub so you can use to it power your laptop or any devices using a USB charger. The chair’s clean and modern lines will make it a great value addition to airports, cafes, libraries and offices.
