If you can conserve energy or power or reduce power consumption then you are on your way to becoming a green consumer and also save money.

Japan has always been technologically advanced and now the city of Osaka in Japan has invested in LED streetlights. These lights, manufactured by Philips, are environmentally friendly because they conserve as much as 88% power and as they are LED lights, they last 60,000 hours. These Luxeon LEDs ought to last five to ten times more than the older mercury lights.

The lights are cool and white and are also mercury free, so they are even more eco-friendly. It is only a matter of time before they are adopted by other cities and countries, thus effecting considerable power savings.
