The Green Pan – an Environmentally Friendly Alternative

Ever since their invention, non-stick pans and cookware have become a staple item in any kitchen. They are easy to use and clean and you can actually cook in them, using little or no oil. However, the non-stick coating is made of PolyTetraFluoroEthylene (PTFE), which is actually dangerous to health. At high temperatures, the coating tends to decompose and the fumes can cause respiratory ailments and nausea. And you well know that you have to keep replacing the pans every few years.
The GreenPan is a greener alternative to traditional non-stick cookware. The company makes a range of non-stick pans and pots. The coating is made not of plastics but of minerals. The composite material is called Thermolon. It has the same attributes as a non-stick pan without posing any of the environmental and health dangers caused by PTFE.
When Thermolon is put on the pans, there is a reduction in carbon dioxide emission by as much as 60 percent when compared to PTFE application. Upcycled stainless steel and aluminum is used for the handles and bodies of the cookware. Even its packaging is environmentally friendly. As the pans heat up faster and evenly, the cooking is quicker and this results in reducing energy bills.
