Ever since their invention, non-stick pans and cookware have become a staple item in any kitchen. They are easy to use and clean and you can actually cook in them, using little or no oil. However, the non-stick coating is made of PolyTetraFluoroEthylene (PTFE), which is actually dangerous to health. At high temperatures, the coating tends to decompose and the fumes can cause respiratory ailments and nausea. And you well know that you have to keep replacing the pans every few years.

The GreenPan is a greener alternative to traditional non-stick cookware. The company makes a range of non-stick pans and pots. The coating is made not of plastics but of minerals. The composite material is called Thermolon. It has the same attributes as a non-stick pan without posing any of the environmental and health dangers caused by PTFE.

When Thermolon is put on the pans, there is a reduction in carbon dioxide emission by as much as 60 percent when compared to PTFE application. Upcycled stainless steel and aluminum is used for the handles and bodies of the cookware. Even its packaging is environmentally friendly. As the pans heat up faster and evenly, the cooking is quicker and this results in reducing energy bills.

<img src='http://greengadgeting.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/solar-energy-bicycle-stand.jpg'alt'Solar Bicycle Stand" />

The bicycle is an environmentally friendly mode of transport since it uses human power to move. The electric bicycle is also eco-friendly, since it uses a cleaner form of energy and is faster. When you combine the electric bicycle with solar power, you get an even more eco-friendly vehicle.

The second solar powered bicycle stand has opened in Tokyo. It offers motor assisted bicycles to the public at a nominal rent of 300 yen a day. The electricity to power these bikes comes from solar power, which charges the lithium ion batteries on the stand. These batteries then transfer the charge to the bike’s lithium ion batteries.

When the bike is fully charged, it can go for 30 km. And if there is no sunlight the stand will use back-up power on the grid. As the number of people using environmentally friendly modes of transport goes up, the pollution levels and carbon dioxide emissions will come down.

<img src='http://greengadgeting.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/eco-friendly-purse.jpg'alt'Eco-Friendly Purse" />

When you carry a large handbag, it sometimes becomes difficult to find things in it, even if there are pockets. This little coin purse is the perfect addition to a bigger bag. While it can be used to keep coins and loose change, it can also be used to put in your small cosmetics, mobile or iPod.

The eco-friendly element comes from 100 percent recycled plastic bottles. The zipper provides extra security. And the inside is quilted which makes it soft and yet protect all the valuables. Its size is 4 1/2″ x 3 1/2″,

The coin purse is available in other sizes and patterns as well. For such a small purse, it can carry a decent quantity of stuff. The bigger sized ones can even be used for carrying small toiletries when traveling.

<img src='http://greengadgeting.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/acer-led-monitors.jpg'alt'Acer LED Monitors" />

Acer has just launched a range of extremely thin LED monitors, which are eco-friendly. Acer has used cutting edge technology for its S1 series of LED monitors. These are space saving and come in three sizes, 20 inch, 21.5 inch and 23 inch (not a lot of difference in the sizes).

These monitors give crisp and clean images and look sophisticated and stylish. The 20-inch model does not have full HD, but otherwise all the models have a high contrast range, quick response times and are economical in their use of power.

LED backlighting helps reduce power consumption by 68 percent and a 5 Energy Star rating. No poisonous halogen or mercury gases are used. The environmentally friendly monitors are packed in recyclable packaging materials. All plastic material uses are labeled for ease of future recycling. For a consumer who is looking for a new LED monitor, Acer is a front-runner

<img src='http://greengadgeting.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/soy-adhesive.jpg'alt'Soy Based Adhesive" />

Adhesives are used in all kinds of items. But have you ever thought of the chemicals which into the making of these various adhesives? Almost all of them are harmful to the environment. The adhesives, which are used for making furniture, give off fumes, which can cause breathing difficulties, watering of the nose and eyes and even skin irritation. As such, a non-chemical adhesive that is eco-friendly and made of soy is welcome.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) had developed a strong adhesive, which is made of soy flour and eliminates the use of carcinogenic substances like formaldehyde which is released from plywood, particle board and other wood-type products, used for furniture. This then makes the furniture more eco-friendly as well.

Though earler petrol based adhesives were used, petrochemical-based ones replaced these because they were cheaper and stronger. Environmental concerns have caused the re-emergence of protein-based adhesives. Newer technologies have helped made the eco-friendly soy adhesives more durable.

Currently the product is still under further refinement so that it is as strong as the petrochemical adhesives. This will help green the environment and also result in lessening of health problems associated with petrochemical adhesives

Candles are in used even now, though they may used more for mood lighting or for perfuming the air via aromatic candles. However, candles need a candle stand and they need to be lit. Then they drip wax and the wax is often difficult to clean up. The Solar Candle does not need to be lit and does not drip. In addition, it looks and feels like a regular candle.

It will not blow out in a gust of wind, nor will you need to blow it out – it will keep on giving light. The solar candle will not give off any fumes, either.

It comes with a solar panel and you just need to put it out in sun for it to charge. Then it will provide light when it gets dark. Therefore, you can enjoy romantic candle-lit dinners every night. Alternatively, you can use for lighting in your outdoor area. The solar candle is environmentally friendly because it reduces your dependence on power and uses solar energy to boot.

There are many different portable solar chargers in the market, but the Solar Gorilla Charger is innovative in many ways. It can actually provide enough power to charge a laptop. Think how great it is if you are out traveling or camping and just cannot do without your mobile devices, but there is no readily available electricity source.

The solar gorilla charger can charge other mobile gadgets like phones, mp3 players, cameras and other devices. It comes with two USB sockets, one of 24 volts and the other of 5 volts, so you can use the one, which is suitable for your gadget. And it does not contain batteries which store the energy, but charges the device directly.

It also comes with a large range of connectors to accommodate most brands of gadgets. The solar charger has a light, which deepens in intensity as it gets charged, so you know when it is ready to be used. It also comes with a slot, which you can use to hang it so that it can capture sunlight.

As it folds up to a compact size, it is easy to carry. In addition, when it is folded it is quite weather resistant as well. It produces 10 watts of power when charged, so it is not only environmentally friendly, but reduces power costs as well.

<img src='http://greengadgeting.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/fine-dining-crockery.jpg'alt'Disposable Crockery" />

There are times when you just have to use disposable plates/glasses and other crockery items. Maybe it is birthday party, perhaps a casual bash or and outdoors picnic or get-together. Or it may be a sale of foodstuffs. At such times, you just cannot but use disposables. These disposables may be made of Styrofoam, plastic or paper, not all of which are environmentally friendly to use.

Desinger Kimming Yap has a Lugum range of fine dining disposable crockery. You can get espresso, cappuccino, shot or wine cups, plates and soup bowls. These look elegant and not out of place for fine dining. They can be easily stacked.

Best of all, they are eco-friendly as they are made of cereplast bioplastic which is fully compostable and uses 50 percent less energy to make than thermoplastics. Cereplast is starch-based, made from corn, wheat, tapioca and potato starches

Many other varieties of bioplastic crockery are available; this is on those, which do not look tacky. As they are stackable, they are easy to store and take out when you need them. Let us not forget that by using disposables you are also saving on soap or dishwashing liquid, dishwashing machine electricity and water costs.

<img src='http://greengadgeting.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/solarve.png'alt'Solar Bus" />

Public transport is definitely more eco-friendly than a private car or taxi because more people travel by it. But a bus which even partly solar powered is certainly more eco-friendly than anything else. Let’s not forget that using any mode of road travel transport reduces carbon dioxide emissions and pollution.

Sanyo, the Japanese giant, has announced the Solarve, which will hit the streets of Okayama on September 1, 2010. It is not exactly a solar powered bus, but it is eco-friendly all the same. It is a diesel-electric hybrid vehicle. The bus has solar cells on the roof and these will harness the sun’s energy to power the LED lights inside the bus.

The solar energy will be stored in batteries and will provide light for nine hours. So during the day, it will gather the power and in the evening the bus will be able to use the lights. Essentially this means that less of diesel-electricity will be used as otherwise the lights come on via the fuel uses by the engine.

Additionally, Eneloop air purifiers are used inside the bus to filter out viruses, bacteria and general filth from the inside air, making it cleaner. Every little bit helps to save the environment.
