How Cell Phone Manufacturers Are Going Green
Ever since industrialization along with the advance of modern technologies, earth has gotten increasingly polluted. It is only in modern times that people have developed awareness about the ecological damage done to our planet by practices which have been taken for granted for a long time now, whether it is cars or computers or mobiles or even the simple incandescent bulb.
Now even manufacturers have woken up to the fact they have to do their bit to stop or reduce environmental pollution and become earth friendly in their practices. As it has become impossible to live without the mobile phone and they are proliferating everywhere, let’s see how mobile companies are adopting environmentally friendly practices.
Sony Ericsson has introduced a phone called GreenHeart which is made from recycled biodegradable components. The phone’s charger draws less power from the socket it is plugged into than that of other phone chargers.
Most Nokia phones come with chargers which beep when the phones are fully charged, signaling that the charger needs to be removed from the electrical outlet. Nokia’s 5630 Xpress Music comes with an application which allows user to measure their carbon dioxide emissions.
Motorola MOTO W233 Renew is made from recycled plastic bottles and the phone itself is recyclable. Its packaging, too, is made from recycled paper. Additionally Motorola is making payments for the carbon dioxide emissions as a result of the manufacture of the phone; these will help a landfill in New Bedford, Mass. use methane gas collected from it.
From China, ZTE is introducing Digicel, a low cost mobile phone which can run on solar power. This phone is specially targeted at the countries which have power and electricity problems and also for the rural populace which may not have constant power. Samsung and LG, too, have come out with solar powered and eco-friendly phones.
Apart from this, manufacturers are also adopting green practices in the manufacturing process and factories to reduce their carbon footprint, whether it is by using solar energy or other earth friendly practices.
