Solar Trash Compactors for Tampa

Considering almost all areas in the world use trash bins from where the garbage is collected, a solar trash compactor makes sense. Tampa city is planning to experiment with these on a trial basis.

The trash compactors are powered by a solar panel on top which recharges a 12 volt battery. Once the bin reaches its maximum capacity, an electric beam releases a ram which compacts the trash. This way, the bin can hold as much as 180 gallons of compacted trash.

Wind Turbines to Power Street Lights

Can you imagine a scenario where cars passing by would be able to power highway lights along with natural winds via wind turbines? Somebody did, by thinking out of the box. The turbine light is a concept at present, but think of all the power and energy it can save if this can be turned into a practical application.

The system would feature a built-in wind turbine that uses the moving air from cars on the highways to generate clean energy, which is then used to power the lights. Clean and green, eco-friendly and free!

Smart Energy Meters for UK by 2020

The government has decided that every home in UK should be fitted with a smart energy meter. This will result in real time usage information being transmitted to the gas and electricity utility companies. The Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) claimed the scheme will be the biggest smart meter project in the world and it is expected to be completed by 2020.

Consumers are expected to be benefit by lowering energy usage by between 2 and 15 percent, thus saving money. This endeavour will help the government meet its target figure of 34 percent for greenhouse gas emission.

U.S. Installs Water Purifiers in Iraq

The U.S. Armed Forces Go Green In Iraq

Potable water is a problem in many third world countries and developing economies. Often even if water is available on tap, it is not safe to drink. As such the U.S. army’s initiative in a small Iraqi village is welcome

The Commander’s Emergency Relief Program has provided funding for the installation of water filters near a canal in an Iraqi village. The filter is supposed to provide pure water to up to 200 people and it is environmentally friendly because it runs on solar energy.
