The Green Pan – an Environmentally Friendly Alternative

Ever since their invention, non-stick pans and cookware have become a staple item in any kitchen. They are easy to use and clean and you can actually cook in them, using little or no oil. However, the non-stick coating is made of PolyTetraFluoroEthylene (PTFE), which is actually dangerous to health. At high temperatures, the coating tends to decompose and the fumes can cause respiratory ailments and nausea. And you well know that you have to keep replacing the pans every few years.

The GreenPan is a greener alternative to traditional non-stick cookware. The company makes a range of non-stick pans and pots. The coating is made not of plastics but of minerals. The composite material is called Thermolon. It has the same attributes as a non-stick pan without posing any of the environmental and health dangers caused by PTFE.

The Induction Cooker

Everybody uses either gas or electricity for cooking. Both are non-renewable sources of energy. While usually gas works out cheaper than electricity, all places do not have the facility of either piped natural gas or liquefied petroleum (both from fossil fuels) gas.

Both these methods of conventional, stove-top cooking use transfer of heat as a cooking mechanism. The heat source transfers the heat to the pan on the stove and this heat then cooks the food. Induction cooking works in the different way. It uses the powerful, high frequency electromagnet which utilizes electromagnetism thanks to the electronics under the ceramic surface of the stove.
