The New Apple iPad – Environmentally Friendly

Apple recently launched its new offering, the iPad. This tablet pc is small and light, and very portable. It is environmentally friendly, being free of arsenic, BFR, mercury and PVR. It is also highly recyclable. It weighs just 1.5 pounds, has a 9.7 inch display, and is .5 inches thin. It has a 10 hour battery life which means that it uses less electricity. The iPad’s 30-day standby battery life means that it rarely needs to be plugged in at night, too.

Dell NextLife Ink Cartridges – An Eco-Friendly Choice

A computer user also uses a printer. And printers use ink cartridges. Now once the ink in the cartridges is over, the cartridges are thrown away. Even though some refilling kits are available, most manufacturers will always recommend using their own products and not refilling the cartridges.

Now Dell has launched its NextLife ink cartridges which can be used with many different leading printers. These cartridges have been remanufactured. According to Dell as many as 400 million cartridges end up in landfills and if only one percent are remanufactured then the environmental (carbon) savings would be the equivalent of planting 15,000 new trees.

Samsung EcoGreen Hard Drive

Samsung has launched its EcoGreen F3EG Hard Disk Drive which has a huge two terabyte capacity. This is the largest capacity of all available HDDs which is meant for desktops. It has four 500 GB sections, making up two terabytes, and is more power efficient.

The Samsung EcoGreen F3EG Hard Disk Drive is environmentally friendly as it uses Samsung’s EcoTriangleTM technology to provide eco-friendly components, using low-power and low-noise operation technology. It does not use halogen compounds and brominated flame retardant; it is made from eco-friendly materials and meets all environmental regulations.

Acer Timeline Aspire 3811TZ/TZG – Low Power Computing

Acer is a leading brand in all kinds of computers and well-known. Now it has expanded its green range of notebooks with two models, the Acer Aspire 3811TZ and Acer Aspire 3811TZG. The first one uses up to 40 percent less energy and its LED LCD display helps in energy efficiency.

Both are Energy Star 5 rated. The Timeline series is free of toxic materials like polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and brominated flame retardants (BFRs). The notebooks are also recyclable, making them even more environmentally friendly.

Cherrypal Africa Launches a New Eco-Friendly Netbook

While netbooks are offering increasingly larger screen sizes and more specs, let us not forget that the bigger ones use more plastic and metal components and also consume more power. Cherrypal Africa has launched a new eco-friendly netbook with a 7” screen size.

It uses an Intel Atom 400 MHz processor with 256 MB RAM and 2 GB flash memory. The company, in an effort to go green, also powers its website using wind energy and is working to reduce its carbon footprint. It consumes less power, thus saving energy and uses fewer components, thus keeping extra toxic computer waste out of landfills.

Apple’s Mac Mini Has Green Credentials

Apple has been a leader in the computer market and has its own set of fans. It is also constantly innovating and trying to make its products more environmentally friendly. The Mac Mini is supposed to be the world’s most energy efficient desktop computer.

You can buy it in various configurations and it comes with the Snow Leopard server installed. The computer is highly recyclable, has received EPA’s Energy Efficient rating and EPEAT’s gold rating. It also uses minimal packaging, reducing it by as much as 60 percent to lessen its environmental impact. The computer is made in such a way that it reduces the power used as much as possible – it uses less than 14 watts of power in the idle mode.

Bamboo Keyboard and Mouse

Everybody who uses a desktop computer uses a keyboard and mouse. Often times these peripherals stop working after some time, sometimes a couple of years or less. They have to be replaced and the old ones end up in landfills; being made of plastic they are toxic to the environment.
